The English Option in Liberal Arts is a writing-intensive degree that prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university. All students shall determine the requirements of their transfer institutions. Students should also check njtransfer.org for transferability of courses. The degree may be completed part-time or full-time. English studies may lead to careers in advertising, broadcasting, publishing, journalism, law, teaching and writing. Students not intending to transfer have found work as administrative assistants or in other positions requiring excellent writing/communication skills.

- Read critically and communicate effectively in both speech and writing;
- Evaluate works in literature and the related historical events and movements;
- Identify the importance of global perspective and culturally diverse peoples;
- Examine and explain ethical issues and situations, demonstrating sound ethical reasoning;
- Prepare research projects by locating, evaluating, and effectively documenting information using MLA guidelines; demonstrating efficiency in the appropriate use of technology.
